- BioJohn Hambrick has called Nevada home since retiring from a distinguished career in Federal law enforcement that spanned almost three decades. John served on the Presidential Protection Detail of the United States Secret Service and spent six years as an agent for the Immigration and Naturalization Service, eventually heading the agency’s criminal prosecutions for Washington D.C. Field Office. Following his tenure with the INS John worked in the Federal Inspector’s General office, combating fraud in Federal agencies including the Department of Defense, Commerce, Housing and Urban Development, Environmental Protection and Veterans Affairs. John has led investigations of contract fraud, mortgage fraud, workers compensation violations and breaches of public integrity. In 2003 he was named Chief Investigator for the Nevada Board of Osteopathic Medicine, where he was in charge of investigating medical malpractice. Throughout his adult life John has been active in civic and community matters. He has been involved with promoting youth athletics through Little League baseball for more than 30 years and is a past president of Summerlin Little League. - Issues[callout2]Youth Services[/callout2] In the 2009 Legislature, John authored a bill to protect our children from sex trafficking and to significantly increase the financial penalties those criminals face. Signed into law and taking effect on October 1, 2009, AB 380 allows the court to impose substantial fines of up to $500,000 on any person convicted of pandering or of prostitution of a child. The law designates that 100% of the money will go to help the victims of such crimes. Because of John’s hard work and powers of persuasion, the very criminals who prey on our youth will now be funding the programs to help get them off the street. John is already formulating further legislation he plans to introduce in the next session to continue to clamp down on these “worst of the worst” criminals who prey on our innocent youth. While this new law is a great start, for the past few years, the number of children who have fallen through the cracks has increased. They have been poorly served by the very professionals who are supposed to safeguard and care for these most vulnerable members of our community.
