AB380 Introduced in the Assembly on Mar 16, 2009 Approved by the Governor May 22, 2009.
Nevada legislation targeting child sex traffickers is signed into law!
Trafficking of children in the sex industry is a horrific form of sexual exploitation, and both US citizens and foreign nationals in the U.S. are at risk of victimization. With an estimated 200,000 American children at high risk for trafficking into the sex industry each year, Nevada has taken action.
AB 380, legislation introduced by Assemblyman John Hambrick, will strengthen and improve the state’s comprehensive approach to prosecuting sex traffickers and helping victims. AB 380 will improve Nevada’s anti-human trafficking law by:
-authorizing the court to impose additional criminal fines on a person who is convicted of pandering or prostitution of a child:
Between the ages 14 and 18, a fine of up to $100,000;
Under the age of 14, a fine of up to $500,000;
If the offense involves conspiracy to commit the crime, a fine of up to $500,000.
-providing that 100% of the forfeited assets of a person who commits the offense prostitution of a child be directed to programs for the prevention of prostitution of children
This critical legislation was signed into law by the Governor on May 22, 2009 (signing ceremony on June 22), and will go into effect on October 1, 2009.
